Psychiatric care without insurance — transparent self-pay rates, no insurance paperwork, same-week telepsychiatry across Texas.
Board-certified PMHNPs. Most patients seen within a week. 90-minute first appointment. Same provider every visit. Statewide telepsychiatry from our Tyler clinic.
Why Psychiatric Care Without Insurance Matters
You do not need insurance to see a psychiatrist. Self-pay rates are published before your first visit. There are no insurance claims, no diagnosis codes reported to any third party, and no deductibles to meet. Most patients are seen within one business week of completing intake.
What You'll Pay
Self-pay rates are published before you book. The 90-minute initial evaluation has a single rate; follow-up medication management visits have a standard 30-minute rate. Payment is due at the time of service — credit card, debit card, HSA card, FSA card, or ACH. You receive an itemized receipt by email after each visit.
Cost transparency before your first visit
Our intake team confirms your expected cost in writing before you book. No surprise charges, no deposit required to schedule, no hidden add-ons. If your situation changes (insurance starts, plan changes, billing arrangement shifts), we discuss options at that point.
How It Works
Contact our intake team. We share our current self-pay rates, schedule your initial evaluation (typically within one business week), and confirm your appointment. No insurance information needed. No prior authorization. No referral required. You see the same provider at every follow-up.
When This Makes Sense
You don't have health insurance
Many adults are uninsured between jobs, after aging out of parental plans, or by choice. Self-pay psychiatric care is straightforward — no insurance paperwork, published rates, immediate scheduling.
Your plan excludes mental health
Some short-term, faith-based, and limited-benefit health plans exclude or severely cap mental health coverage. Self-pay bypasses these limitations.
You want privacy
Self-pay visits don't generate insurance claims. No diagnosis codes are reported to your insurer or employer-sponsored plan.
You're between coverage
If you've lost coverage and won't have new coverage for weeks or months, you can start care now and continue with insurance once it's active.
Clinical Perspective
A common scenario in our practice: an adult who recently lost employer-sponsored coverage, is on COBRA they cannot afford, and needs psychiatric medication continuity now. Self-pay gets them seen this week at a published rate. Once their new coverage starts, we switch billing arrangements if we're in-network with their new plan, or continue self-pay with superbills if we're not.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does psychiatric care cost without insurance?
Our self-pay rates are published before you book. The 90-minute initial evaluation and follow-up medication management visits each have a transparent rate. Contact our intake team for current rates.
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist without insurance?
No. Self-pay patients book directly without referral. Most patients are seen within one business week.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds if I don't have traditional insurance?
Yes. HSA and FSA accounts are separate from your insurance and can be used for psychiatric care whether you have a health plan or not. Many self-pay patients use HSA/FSA funds for visits and medications.
Will you keep my visit confidential?
Yes. All psychiatric care is confidential under HIPAA regardless of how you pay. Self-pay visits don't generate insurance claims, which means no diagnosis codes are reported to any third party (employer, insurer, etc.).
What about medication costs?
Most generic psychiatric medications are inexpensive even without prescription insurance — $4-$15 per month at most pharmacies. We prescribe generics whenever clinically appropriate. For brand-name medications, manufacturer copay cards and patient assistance programs are often available; we help you identify them.
Can I get health insurance through the marketplace?
Yes. ACA marketplace plans cover psychiatric care as an Essential Health Benefit. Enrollment runs annually in fall; special enrollment periods exist for life events (job loss, marriage, etc.). HealthCare.gov has more information.
