Same-Week SPRAVATO® Consultations in Tyler, TX
East Texas Psychiatry offers same-week intake appointments for SPRAVATO® — most new patients are evaluated within a week of their first call.
Quick Answer
East Texas Psychiatry and Counseling offers same-week consultations for patients seeking SPRAVATO® treatment in Tyler, TX. Most new patients are evaluated within a week of first contact. After evaluation, prior authorization is initiated the same day. We believe depression is a medical condition that warrants timely access to care — not months-long waitlists.
01Why Access Speed Matters in Treatment-Resistant Depression
For people with treatment-resistant depression, delays in accessing a new treatment are not merely inconvenient — they extend an already long history of suffering. The average patient who qualifies for SPRAVATO® has spent years trying medications that did not provide adequate relief. Adding months to a waitlist to begin a new option compounds that timeline unnecessarily.
East Texas Psychiatry was built around a belief that specialty psychiatric care should be accessible — not as a marketing claim but as a structural commitment. Same-week availability is the result of deliberate scheduling design: we reserve appointment capacity for new patients, handle prior authorization in-house with no outsourcing delays, and maintain the clinical staffing to run twice-weekly induction sessions once authorization is in hand.
The pathway from first contact to first SPRAVATO® session has three steps: a comprehensive evaluation, prior authorization from the insurer, and session scheduling. We control two of those three steps directly — the evaluation and our authorization process. The third (insurer processing time) is typically five to fourteen business days. We do not add delays at our end.
For patients with MDD and acute suicidal ideation — the other population for whom SPRAVATO® is FDA-approved — speed of access is a clinical priority. Same-week evaluation and same-day authorization initiation are the minimum standard for this population.
02What the First Week Looks Like
Here is a realistic picture of what to expect in the first seven days after contacting East Texas Psychiatry.
Day 1 — First contact: You call (430) 288-5800 or submit a request online. Our intake team confirms your insurance, asks preliminary questions about your treatment history, and schedules your evaluation. For most new patients, this evaluation is available within the same week.
Days 1–7 — Initial evaluation: A board-certified PMHNP conducts a comprehensive evaluation covering your diagnosis, antidepressant history, current medications, health background, and goals. If SPRAVATO® is appropriate, we initiate prior authorization the same day. You leave with a clear picture of the treatment plan and what comes next.
Days 1–14 — Prior authorization: While the insurer processes your request, you do not need to do anything. We submit, track, and follow up. We notify you when a decision is received.
After authorization — Session scheduling: We contact you to schedule your induction sessions — twice weekly for four weeks. We work around your schedule and confirm logistics including transportation arrangements.
The total time from first call to first SPRAVATO® session varies by insurer processing speed but is typically two to four weeks for most patients. We do not add any delay beyond what insurance requires.

03What to Bring to Your SPRAVATO® Consultation
Your evaluation is most useful when you come prepared. Gathering these items before your appointment makes the session more productive and your prior authorization documentation stronger.
Medication history: A written list of every antidepressant you have tried — approximate dates, doses, prescribing provider if known, and reason for stopping (ineffective, side effects, cost, other). Pharmacy records or prior medical records documenting this history are ideal but not required.
Current medications: A complete list of everything you currently take — prescription, over-the-counter, supplements. Some medications interact with esketamine, and your provider needs a full picture.
Prior psychiatric diagnoses: If you have been diagnosed with any condition beyond major depression — bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety disorder, ADHD — bring documentation or be prepared to discuss it in detail.
Insurance information: Your insurance card and, for Medicare Advantage patients, the card for that plan. If you have supplemental Medicare coverage, bring that information as well.
Questions: Write them down. Common questions include: Am I a good candidate? How quickly does it work? What will sessions feel like? What if it doesn't work? You will have time to ask them, and written questions get more complete answers.
04How We Build a Fast, High-Quality Intake Process
Same-week availability requires deliberate practice design. We have built our process to make it work without sacrificing the quality of evaluation that SPRAVATO® candidacy requires.
Dedicated new patient capacity: We maintain scheduled availability specifically for new intake consultations, so that growing patient volume does not push new patient wait times out to weeks or months.
In-house authorization management: We do not outsource prior authorization or allow it to queue behind other administrative tasks. Authorization is initiated the same day as the evaluation, with complete documentation submitted in the first submission — which reduces processing delays caused by incomplete requests.
REMS-compliant session infrastructure: Our Tyler clinic is equipped and staffed to run twice-weekly induction sessions. Once authorization is confirmed, session slots are actually available — we do not have a secondary waitlist for sessions after authorization.
Telepsychiatry flexibility: For patients who live outside Tyler or prefer remote care for non-session appointments, we offer statewide telepsychiatry. This reduces the travel burden and makes follow-up care more accessible throughout the induction and maintenance phases.
We accept Aetna, Ambetter, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna/Evernorth, Medicare, Optum, UnitedHealthcare, and UMR.
The challenge
Months-long waitlists for specialty psychiatric care are a real barrier — and for people with TRD, they directly extend suffering.
Our approach
East Texas Psychiatry offers same-week evaluations, same-day authorization submission, and session scheduling as soon as authorization is confirmed.
The outcome
Access speed and clinical quality are not a trade-off. A same-week evaluation that is thorough produces better outcomes than a delayed evaluation that is rushed.
Take the first step
Help starts with one conversation — most new patients are seen within a week.
05Our Team and Clinical Environment
East Texas Psychiatry was built to provide specialty-level psychiatric care without the access barriers common to the mental health system.
James Baughman, MSN APRN PMHNP-BC, co-founder with 35+ years of psychiatric nursing experience and U.S. Navy service. Antonio Brigham, MSN-Ed APRN PMHNP-BC PMHNP-C, dual board-certified with a holistic clinical approach. Karen A. English, MSN PMHNP-BC, specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry.
Our Tyler clinic is REMS-certified and equipped for comfortable, monitored SPRAVATO® sessions. The two-hour post-dose monitoring period occurs in private space with staff available throughout. We have designed the monitoring environment to support rest rather than clinical anxiety — because the monitoring period is also a therapeutic window for many patients.
We treat the full range of psychiatric conditions alongside SPRAVATO® — major depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, ADHD, and mood disorders — which means that SPRAVATO® can be coordinated with comprehensive care rather than administered in isolation.

06Taking the First Step — Same-Week Appointment
If you have been living with depression that has not responded to standard antidepressants, or if you have been told you may have treatment-resistant depression, a consultation is the right first step.
Call (430) 288-5800 or use the Schedule a Consultation button on this page. Our intake team confirms your insurance coverage before your appointment and schedules you for the earliest available evaluation slot — typically within the same week.
